Find the connections: A problem-solving technique
Tarot is creative, but are you?

Why be more creative?

Lightbulb exploding into creativityHere is a thought: the more you read tarot cards, the more creative you become. (Yes, tarot is a creative activity! We explore this in another article.) And the more creative you are, the better you become at reading tarot cards.

And by the way: we are all creative to some degree.

Before we go on, what is creativity? Creativity is not only artistic creativity. It's also solving problems, thinking up excuses, daydreaming when we should be working, deciding what to wear, using examples to make a point, or thinking up new recipes. We use our imagination in all kinds of ways.

But why else should we want to be creative? (Another question is how else do we become more creative, but that is the subject of another article.)

Being creative means you can:

  • solve complex problems,
  • find original and effective solutions,
  • think more flexibly and fluently,
  • look at a problem from different angles,
  • come up with ideas no one else has had,
  • when logic fails, discover alternative ways to find your way out,
  • make more effective decisions,
  • see the potential in things,
  • combine things to make something new,
  • discover opportunities,
  • reduce uncertainty,
  • see connections more quickly,
  • create something that didn't exist before,
  • improve a product or a process,
  • approach life with wonder and curiosity,
  • play and have fun (crucial for living a meaningful life),
  • see things differently,
  • adapt to change when old solutions or ways of doing things no longer serve,
  • increase your productivity and the quality of your work,
  • delve into the past to find meaning in events and discover the lessons you learned,
  • consider the consequences of an action before you carry it out,
  • explore the causes of a situation, which may explain what is going on,
  • examine your assumptions and beliefs, which can remove potential obstacles before you start,
  • tell better stories,
  • tap into your intuition,
  • overcome challenges,
  • boost your mental health (creative activities reduce stress, and anxiety, and depression),
  • push you out of your comfort zone, and
  • explore your options and alternatives.
